Seeking recommendations for Paris

J and I are headed to Paris, France on Sunday after 3 amazing weeks in Barcelona.  We are currently seeking any tips, advice or recommendations from our readers for our Parisan stay. Here are some topics I can think of, but don't feel limited to these subjects.

1. Oh, if you're in Paris you MUST go to _____________________ (dining establishment) to have breakfast/lunch/dinner
2. Oh, if you're in Paris you MUST visit _____________________ (attraction)
3. Oh, if you're in Paris you MUST _____________________ (activity)
4. If you go to Paris avoid ________________ (activity)
5. ______________ (location) would make a great day/weekend-trip
6. Try ___________________ (website or travel agency) for good deals on weekend trips.
7. Here's a tip: ____________________ (something useful all locals know, but a tourist would not know)
8. It was one of those "get lost roaming the streets of Paris" days........ (the rest of your experience)

Thanks everyone!!!

- I really enjoyed sainte chapelle (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sainte-Chapelle) -- it was beautiful and less visited than notre dame.
- it might seem like an overpriced tourist thing, but i liked visiting versailles -- very impressive! make sure you get there right when it opens to avoid lines.
not must, but i was told this is good - chez papa,

Sadly, I have not been to Paris (yet!), but prepare yourselves for pages of info when you go to Italy:)
for #5, seattle would make a great weekend-trip. we could go eat at facing east! =)
I loved the Rodin Museum. There's also one in Philly, but since you're going to be in Paris .... Great audio guide, especially loved the room of sculpture dedicated to his mistress.

Eat anywhere recommended by Rick Steves. He's never steered us wrong!

Don't miss the Louvre- it is free on Wednesday night. Notre Dame cathedral is beautiful - but be tolerant as the may be mass going on. Watch out for dog poop - they don't seem to pick up after their pets. Subway stations smell like latrines. Don't eat at the floating restuarant by the Eiffel tower. Do eat as much and as many cheeses as u can! My personal fav is Camembert.
- I 2nd sainte-chapelle
- Montmartre (sitting on the steps and looking out across the city is just gorgeous late afternoon approaching sunset) and Sacre-Coeur
- eiffel tower at night!
- day trip to loire valley
- musee d'orsay -- if you're a fan of Rick Steves, grab his free audio tour off his site (it might be a bit outdated, so the pieces might not be exactly where he says they'll be tho)
- if you're an intense monet fan, musee de l'orangerie
- the Latin Quarter for food... lots of options, yummy, and fairly inexpensive for Paris!
